Amsterdam is most known for its museums, coffee shops and colourful nightlife.

For me…the highlight of Amsterdam is actually the independent boutique stores.

Read below for where to stay, shop, stop and eat in 24 hours.

Last week I flew to Amsterdam for a quick shopping and inspiration trip.

With just 24 hours in the city I chose to stay somewhere with a mid price point (for the location), and of course it’s stunning alfresco dining spot.

I must say I booked the hotel on whim and WOW did it exceed all expectations. I rarely visit a hotel that ticks all the boxes… Location, atmosphere, interiors and food! … excelled in providing the perfect mini break stay.

I would highly recommend.

The hotel positioned opposite the canals has a sort of Soho house casual but chic vibe with a moody, Cali inspired interior.

It was the stunning alfresco area on the right that caught my eye on arrival and the super cool marble bar on the left (with leopard print stools!) that tempted me for a G&T later that night.

After an evening of light nibbles and G&T’s and a night sleeping in my hotel room (that was the size of an apartment) I woke up early at 8am to hit the shops…

To get the most out of every city break I go on, I pin every shop I want to visit on google maps (a bit ott I know) and decide the walking route I will take. Fitting in a breakfast and lunch stop on route. On this occasion as the alfresco dining area was so desirable I decided to sit and work out my walking route the old fashioned way.

I did this whilst tucking into, melt in your mouth freshly cooked pancakes listening to the bells of the cyclists at the crossing.

Where to shop

The 9 streets (De 9 Straatjes) – This is my absolute favourite area to wander and get lost in Amsterdam. The 9 Streets are lined by the canal.
Think … cobbled streets, independent boutique stores, rustic cafes and lots to see in between!.

Skin Cosmetics – my all time favourite skincare shop…they have a section at the back dedicated solely to natural skincare.
Opposite Skin Cosmetics there is the perfect little café where you can eat a delicious salad to fuel your afternoon.

Comme des Garçons Pocket – a unstuffy designer boutique store where you can pick up a real hero piece.

By 1 Oak – a beautiful jewellery boutique store with unusual fine gold handmade pieces.

Boutique BY1OAK

Atelier Sukha – a must visit for home inspiration … this is a natural homeware haven.  I got the pleasure of meeting the owner and apparently her home is a replica of the store… had to stop myself from inviting myself over for a nosey.
Picked up 2 hand drawn artworks to hang In our hallway.

Vegabond – whislt wandering, make sure you go via this health shop and peruse their vegan selection. Pick yourself up one of their delicious kefir waters for the homeward journey.

Amsterdam is one of those places where the best (and in my opinion) the only way to get around to make the most of it is on foot or by bike.

If you are anything like me and want to stop at every flower stall…bridge…or pretty shop then I would suggest taking the on foot option!

This does of course mean that flat shoes are an absolute must! If you are away for 2-3 days in spring/summer (recommended time) I would travel in trainers and pack your cutest but comfiest sandals for day to night dressing. Possibly a heel if you fancy dressing up for dinner.

Day One Outfit: andotherstories jacquard trousers, stan smiths and knotted black Zara tee, Monica Vinader necklace layered on Tiffany diamond necklace, Mango small specs, Gucci Soho bag.

Dinner: Polka dot Whistles Jumpsuit, Mango mules, And Other Stories earrings.

Day Two: Polka Dot Whistles Jumpsuit, Topshop sliders, Mango small specs, Topshop Basket Bag.

I packed super light as I knew I would want plenty of space in my hand luggage for shopping … so I re used the jumpsuit I wore for dinner to wear shopping the next day and hop on the plane in that evening.

So …4pm I finished my day back at the hotel with one last G&T in hand before my Uber arrived at 6.00pm for the 8.00pm flight back to London.

Hand luggage bursting at the seams … a successful shopping trip.

Heliocare factor 50, Clarins tinted moisturiser, Kiels avocado eye cream, Dermilogicia serum, moisturiser and antioxidant toner. Cowshed travelsize face cleanser and I don’t go ANYWHERE without my trusty Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream.
