Belle Mare Beach

In his book ‘the 5am club’ Robin Sharma quotes that Mauritius was made first and then heaven copied it.

If this is true then we are all in for a treat! Just across from Madagascar this beautiful green, french speaking lush island is a real gem in the Indian Ocean. While May can be a tricky month for the Indian ocean due to rain and winter, it is actually a perfect month to visit Mauritius as temperatures are still high around 27/28 with very little rainfall. So perfect if you are looking for a romantic break with babies or young children.

Belle Mare is notorious for its stunning beaches and it also has the benefit of a slight wind which really keeps the temperature moderate.

When looking for the perfect wellness escape there are two non negotiable checks for b.blank.

  • wholesome ingredients/food that can nourish our body.
  • a sanctuary either in a Spa or Wellness facility where we can move our body every day.

We can safely say that the One & Only Hotel Saint Germain fully lived up to our wellness expectations.

Breakfast

One and Only hotels are in size usually bigger than boutique hotels which comes with more choice and facilities. The special thing about the One and Only group is they still successfully manage to keep a boutique personal approach to service and truly make you feel like you are their only guest.

Saint Germain boasts 4 restaurants. A poolside restaurant/bar, a international buffet, a steak restaurant and an Asian tapas restaurant. Plenty of choice if you are planning a trip for more than a week.

The breakfast at the hotel offers something for everyone. There is a full bar of grains, seeds, nuts and different oats/milks. Including Almond milk and non dairy substitutes. The fruit is fresh daily and the endless choice is seasonal… extremely juicy and delicious.

Mauritian food is served in the international buffet every night and for us this was our favourite place to eat as we could really load up on greens, grains and authentic Mauritian cuisine. Mauritian food is a real delight especially if you are pescatarian or vegetarian. Most dishes revolve around veg or seafood with added spices and herbs and served in many different forms…sushi, curry and stew, all with an Indian or Chinese influence.

Lots of fresh, wholesome fish and vegetables…yum.

If a buffet is a little casual for your style then the asian tapas and steak restaurant will probably be more for you! The dress code is strict, men must wear trousers and shoes… the perfect excuse to dress up after a day on the beach.

Beach Front Room

The interiors are casual & chic. The perfect hybrid in our opinion. You have a choice of a bedroom or suite. We took the bedroom which was plentifly spacious for two of us with a walk in wardrobe and a marble bathroom that dreams are made of.

If you are travelling with children opting for a suite would mean you have a separate living room to chill out in the day if the sun gets too much.

Our one top tip would be to make sure whichever room you decide on you opt for the beach front over the balcony. There is nothing better than waking up and walking straight out into the ocean in the morning.

The rooms were all renovated at the end of last year. In fact the entire hotel was renovated and due to this it has made it onto the ‘Conde Nast 2019 Gold List’.

The One and Only Pool Side

With daily glass bottom boat trips, snorkelling trips, cycling tours of the island and numerous water sports there is lots to be doing at Saint Germain. If you are more of a pool person than a beach person you can hire a bed for the day by the pool and look at the sea without having to get a grain of sand on you.

One and Only Outdoor gym

Taking the gym outside is our favourite thing to do. There is something so much more natural about working outside in nature than on a treadmill.

The tribe wellness centre is one of the best we have experienced at an island hotel. You can find tennis courts, basketball courts a yoga studio, a boxing studio and an inside and outside gym!

Spa Pool

As the sun sets early around 5.30pm there is no excuse to not visit the Spa, a swim in the spa pool and a daily ritual from 5.30-6.30 of spa time before dinner is a must. The sauna and steam room are separate for men and women making it the perfect opportunity to get an hour of self-care time in for yourself everyday. As you know we are all about getting that sacred hour of time in for ourselves ….perhaps skip going out for dinner one night and take a massage and in room dining as a treat to yourself.

We can honestly say that we left the One and Only feeling completely rejuvenated and revitalised with an enviable golden tan. Not often do we return to the same place twice but we may have to make an exception here.

The perfect luxury wellness escape.
